Solutions
Virsto extends the benefits of virtualization across the enterprise in two ways. First, it dramatically increases VM density on server hosts. Second, Virsto simultaneously reduces storage capacity consumption.
Virsto changes the economics of a multitude of storage-intensive scenarios.
Here’s how the Virsto storage hypervisor is changing the game in:
Enterprise applications & databases
Storage comprises 80% to 90% of the operational costs of running ERP and databases, today’s top enterprise applications. That’s because your organization may be maintaining up to seven full copies of each app for production, quality assurance, testing, staging and more. For databases and apps that easily run from five to 10 Tb in size, the storage requirements are enormous.
With these applications, Virsto takes snapshots of the production environment, creating writeable clones that consume a small amount of logical storage capacity. This approach reduces the need to maintain multiple copies of the same application or database, using a fraction of the storage capacity and cost. Instead of 70 Tb, with Virsto you can use just 7 Tb.
Desktop virtualization
Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) brings back the client/server computing model for today’s enterprise environment, replicating individuals’ PC environments on desktop terminals. All display, computation and storage take place on a central computing resource.
VDI is a great promise, but the cost and complexity of storage has been a huge impediment to successful adoption. Until now. Virsto eliminates the IOPS (input/output per second) bottleneck that typically crushes any cost savings hoped for in VDI deployments. Our storage hypervisor allows each VDI host to easily handle the storage I/O needs of 50-100 desktops – the magic number required to bring the cost of VDI down below the current desktop standard. The result? Virsto reduces the costs of storage for VDI by up to 70%.
Test & development
Time-to-market pressure and customer demands for perfection have never been compatible, particularly in highly competitive markets like online games and other consumer apps.
Virsto accelerates test and development by delivering the most scalable, high-performance snapshots and writable clones available today. With Virsto’s self-service storage provisioning, development teams can now test multiple scenarios simultaneously in complete production environments – getting higher-quality releases out the door, faster than ever.
Cloud computing
Many IT organizations see cloud computing as a great way to reduce costs while improving self-service and agility. Virsto helps companies achieve both these goals by:
- Automating storage thin-provisioning when virtual machines are spun-up and down in a dynamic cloud environment.
- Enabling storage self-provisioning for server and desktop teams.
By removing inefficient storage management workflows between server and storage functions, Virsto helps reduce OpEx by up to 75%. The Virsto storage hypervisor is the key to unlocking the full utilization of compute and storage assets. Virsto supports server host density by over 2x and storage capacity utilization by up to 90%, while improving VM performance by up to 10x.
By enabling major improvements in virtualization density, Virsto’s storage hypervisor lowers infrastructure costs, making cloud computing a cost-effective strategy.
