The Virsto Storage Hypervisor
Just as the hypervisor did for servers, the Virsto storage hypervisor fundamentally improves utilization of existing enterprise storage. Our solution breaks the bottlenecks that make provisioning and managing storage in virtualized environments incredibly inefficient.

Our purpose-built storage hypervisor software can help you achieve:
- 10x more capacity utilization from the hardware you already own.
- 10x better I/O performance for your virtual machines.
- 10x reduction in OpEx as you provision VMs in seconds, not 20 minutes.
What we believe
When it comes to fixing what’s wrong with enterprise storage, the solution is software, not hardware.
Virsto believes that the best place to solve the inherent challenges of I/O in virtualized workloads is at the source: the virtual machine (VM). The storage hypervisor needs to be VM-aware and install directly into the server hypervisor, such as Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware ESX/ESXi.
Attempts to address poor storage utilization and performance through server-side PCIE flash cards, external hardware appliances or traditional storage arrays all have inherent limitations, and add an unwanted layer of management complexity.
That’s why we developed a pure software solution, designed to present at the VMDK level, implemented within the hypervisor. By installing transparently into the hypervisor of your choice, Virsto delivers game-changing performance and capacity benefits while supporting your heterogeneous storage hardware environment.
No forklift upgrades. No changes to existing process and workflow. Just radically improved performance, space efficiency and acceleration of VM storage provisioning and backups.
Architected to be VM-centric
We also believe that the application, and specifically the VM, is the center of the datacenter universe. This tenet informs all elements of the Virsto solution. All storage within the Virsto virtual storage pool is VM-centric; our solution optimizes existing storage capacity to efficiently handle the erratic I/O patterns that characterize virtual computing environments, delivering high performance.
At the same time, Virsto delivers a VM-specific block map for optimized reads and writes. We pair this capability with a unique logging architecture that delivers consistent, high-performance thin provisioning that utilizes up to 10x less capacity.
This is how the Virsto storage hypervisor changes the economics of enterprise storage.
